The Perfect Pizza Margherita

pizza-margherita

A phone conversation, & a Home Delivery gone wrong…

It’s Friday evening…After pulling thru’ the 5 long weekdays, it’s finally here. Chilled Beer (lemonade for kids) & an evening out with friends in a local pizzeria is one option, the other one being having a quiet family time with a pizza home delivery. So one of these Fridays we opted on having that Oh! so precious (Quiet? no way!) family time & some thought of “custom pizza”.

I put the beer cans in the refrigerator, hubby goes up to pick a movie which we hope we can all enjoy together (mind it we have kids), & I pick up the phone and dial the number while I fish out the Pizza Coupon… here starts the drama-If you are like us ( “Picky Pizza People”) you would know what I am talking about.

Jamaican Curry Goat

curry-goat-jamaican

The very first time I had tasted Jamaican Curry Goat many suns back was in an International Festival. We were trying to decide on our lunch, when we spotted this Spicy Rich Curry & got rooted there. It was served with white rice & some fried Plaintains- & needless to say we were satisfied & pleasurably surprised. Till that day I was under the misconception that that the concept of “Curry” did not go beyond India. How did the Curry travel to the Islands? This is what I found..”Curry, which is popular in Jamaica, was introduced there in the 17th century by East Indians slaves  (who were not slaves as I had initially read, but free servants,- as mentioned in the comments below), who were brought to the island (then an English colony) by the British.” So along with the immigrants, went the curry, spices & all. Now that explains…

Stuffed Khandvi: Savory Layered & Nut Stuffed Chickpea Swirls

khandvi-1

These look like Khandvis,  because they are Khandvis… only I have layered them & stuffed them. Basic old recipes are treasures, however sometimes when that adventurous itch rears it’s head, I need to give in to my temptations to the looming who knows what will happen. Sometimes the adventure is a disaster, other times quite fulfilling. This was during those times, when I got a little itchy… & the itchy witch was pretty daring for I had never made Khandvis before!  Along with the” first time”  of making Khandvis, came the desire to deviate. I must say & as you can see – I was happy to hop this time. So why shy away from trying something new & delicious from the traditional base recipes?

Chicken & Roasted Capsicum Pasta – for Hay Hay It’s Donna Day

hhdd-pasta1

hhdd_logo-copyIt’s time for HHDD #26!

First I started reading Meeta’s post with curiosity, then I was in for some surprise, later came the  total disbelief when I saw my name was up there along with an excerpt of my email to Meeta. She had sent me a sweet email too, but I happened to be in her blog even before I saw her mail.  My entry to HHDD #25 – Shrimp Satay – Grilling with Almond Satay Sauce was the overall winner! There were awesome entries in both the sweet & savory categories, & my humble thanks to all those liked mine. After the initial few seconds of thrill of the win wore off, & I realized that I  have to host HHDD #26, the nervousness & intimidation kicked in, for during these few months of blogging I have never even given any thought about hosting an event. But I am sure with all your support I will make this happen:-)

[I am sending a Big Bag of Thanks to Bron, who guided me though this “apparently”  simple task of posting this announcement for HHDD #26.]

The Terrific Tandoori Tofu

tandoori-tofu-1

This is probably the easiest recipe resulting in a beautiful, delicious & healthy treat.

None of us are particularly cheese lovers in our family. We do very limited things with cheese. This is one of our favorite family recipes and have turned a lot of “I do not like tofu” at all to “Oh! this is tofu?! I loved it!”.
