True Delights From Quaker
I received these True Delights Whole Grain Granola Bars from Foodbuzz Tastemaker Program last week. They sent 6 of them, 2 each of three Flavors:
1. Honey Roasted Cashew Mixed with Berries
2. Dark Chocolate Raspberry Almonds
3. Toasted Coconut Banana Macadamia Nut
Each of these bars are 1.23 oz (35g) each, the size of a regular bar & 140 Cal. each. It has whole grain rolled oats & real dried fruits & nuts, which gives a wonderful fresh, chewy taste to these bars. But they also have a lot of sugar. They are pretty filling, With the kind of amount I consume (which i would say is a regular diet), I was full having one bar. A big enough, filling bar for breakfast.
Now the real test of food comes in the Taste. I am not too fond of sweet things, & find all bars too sweet for my taste. My daughter is a very good critic, & immediately opened the Dark Chocolate Raspberry Almond. This one had a good amount of chunky chocolate pieces in the bar with quite a few Almonds. She loved this one, mostly because there was a chocolate piece with every bit, & also the almond which is a perfect balance of taste. I took a bite & liked the flavors they have matched here. I did notice though, that the second bar of the same flavor, did not have as many chocolate pieces nor the huge amount of nuts in them. So it is kind of you get more chocolate & nut if you get lucky.
The next one was the Honey Roasted Cashew Mixed with Berries. The flavor was okay, though my daughter exclaimed that it was very very sweet, & i agree to that. Along with the sugar already in the bar, I could taste the sugar of the dried berries. I wish it was only the sugar of the dried berries.
The last one to open is the Toasted Coconut Banana Macadamia Nuts. This one did not sell very well in our home. Meant to be a mix of tropical flavors I think, it was too much & too strong of everything. But again that is a personal taste. We all felt that the smell of banana was too overpowering, kind of like too ripe bananas. However the sweet part of the bar felt most balanced of all the 3 in this one.
I would say they were alright, not much different than the other granola bars we get. Personally I would like to have a cup of natural dry fruits & nuts sprinkled with some wheat germs…
