Smoky, spicy and lightly sweet; this is a very easy and simple dish to make. With all the abundance of the pumpkins and the squashes in stores and the blogsphere, I could not resist making this even if I had to do it just for myself.

Ever heard of a kid who gobbled up all the vegetables without complaining? The kind who would frustrate her friends, for the moms of the friends would go into the sing song of the comparing game to why they should eat the vegetables without whining? That kid was me.

The Holiday Season is soon approaching with all it’s Sweet Temptations. Fresh, crispy air, colorful leaves, that slight shiver, and most of all that longing to stay inside the warm covers for a little bit longer when the alarm screams in the dark wee morning hours – are all getting stronger; calling out the soon approaching festivities and the celebration.

“...Page upon page of yesterdays stored neatly in a drawer
archives of a life recorded as it was before
Now spread out like fallen leaves across the author’s floor…”
- Karyn Crest

Family picnics in the farm, pumpkin picking, hay rides, maizes; this is probably a very pretty time of the year, full of action & excitement. We have already guessed the weight of that humongous, misshapen pumpkin in our local farmer’s market, & dropped the paper in the box.

I just finished putting up my Christmas Tree & the lights. This time the kids are big enough to help me with decorating the tree. It was a lot of fun, and a lot of work, but we are finally done. The only thing we need to do is wait for Santa. On that note, my little one, pulled out a red stocking from the box and came and told me that “Santa Claus lost a sock” & she found it! She has a funny bone.

Talking of Dum Aloo…There are some hundreds of ways to make Dum Aloo. In West Bengal it used to be a must dish served for weddings with “Radhaballavi” (lentil stuffed puri), and I loved the slight & subtle sweet taste of that kind of dum aloo.
Also during fall/winter time, when there would be small new baby potatoes, & the peas in the shell, my mom would make peas kachori and dum aloo with the bite size potatoes. It used to be an all evening activity when we would all sit and shell the peas and rub the potatoes to skin the already peeling skins.
