Grilled Peaches with Lemon Yogurt & Honey

The heat is spiking up over 100 degrees here. A few minutes outside in the sun feels like I will get cooked. The summer is at its peak. So is it with the wonders of the nature. I cannot help but dive into the fruits & berries that the season has to offer.
The other day the peaches were for sale for 77 cents a pound! I don’t even know how many pounds I got. Most of them were eaten fresh & on ice creams, a lot of it went into making a Peach & Rhubarb Pie (will post that soon), & some were grilled.

Peaches are the most commonly grilled fruits I must say & I love grilled fruits. Grilling the peaches deepens the flavors & with some cream or yogurt they make cool desserts or just afternoon snacks. The luscious peaches combines with the slight smokiness from the grill – makes me crave for more & more.

Grilled Peaches with Lemon Yogurt & Honey
Note: Pick Ripe but Firm Peaches.
Ingredients:
- 4 Peaches, halved & pits removed
- 1 Cup Yogurt, strained or Greek Yogurt
- 1/2 Teaspoon Lemon Extract
- Clover Honey or any other flavors of honey you would want to use
- Mint leaves for garnish
- Lightly toasted Almonds
For basting the peaches while grilling:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 Teaspoon Lemon Zest
- 2 Tablespoons mint Leaves, cut into very small pieces ( I use scissors)
- 2 Tablespoons Brown sugar or regular sugar
Preparation:Muddle the Mint & the Sugar.. or use a rolling pin to crush them together. Heat all the sauce ingredients in a small saucepan just until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat. Strain the basting sauce.
Baste the peach halves with the sauce and place them cut side down on the grill over medium-low heat. Cook them for about 3 minutes and turn. ( I have grilled mine on the stove top grill pan).
Spoon some of the sauce into each peach half, lightly cover with a foil or pan and heat for another 4 or 5 minutes, until warm & slightly softened.
Combine the Lemon Extract & the Yogurt.
Serve the Grilled Peaches with Lemon Yogurt, Drizzle with honey, sprinkle some slivered almonds & garnish with mint.
Note: (The yogurt may be substituted with Cream, Whipped Cream or Ice Cream or even better with Mascarpone Cheese)

Peaches & Cream are kind of naturally paired, Sweet, Smoky, Fruity & Healthy, quick yet an elegant dessert to make for yourself or company. Enjoy the peaches while they are still fresh an in season. The Picture (above) is going to CLICK: June 2009 (Stacks), hosted by dear Jai & Bee.

I tried grilled fruits but somehow the family did not seem to like the idea, probably because my husband has taught them too well to eat fruits raw! They will only have it raw or in cakes and custards! I love them grilled like yours esp. with ice cream or puddings!

You come up with such unique ideas Soma. This is a great idea for this scorching heat going on here. Lemon yogurt is a cool idea.
I sat in the car today at 3:00 PM and i thought that I was going to bake/cook. Not a gust of wind in sight either

This looks fabulous, wish I could have some right now. The caramalization that grilling adds to the fruit is too good to put in words.
The peaches haven’t gotten that cheap here yet, may be in a few weeks, its raining strawberries as of now. But I’ve been going thru 2 tubs of yogurt a week now! Need to re-start making my own at this rate.
