Mango & Mint Lassi

Mango & Mint Lassi 2

Lassi or Smoothie?

Well, sweet fruity Lassi is Smoothie. Traditionally Lassi is a yogurt based drink very popular (esp. during the summer months) in the Northern & North Western parts of the Indian Subcontinent. The drink really helps to cool down when the summer sun is beating hard against the dusty streets & farms.Β  Lassi is prepared by blending yogurt, water, ice, salt & pepper & some spices (usually Cumin). Sweet Lassi, prepared with sugar/honey, with lemon, saffron, rosewater or fruits (either one or in combination) isΒ  popular too. In the Eastern Region of India (West Bengal), the sweet Lassi is called “”Ghol”.Β  (More about/variations of Lassi)

A lot of mangoes, fresh mint from the yard & some real need of a wonderful thirst (& soul) quencher on a hot summer afternoon led to this. I like my Lassi with more fruit & less yogurt; there are not fixed proportions, just do what you want to drink.

Combine all the above ingredients except the mint for garnish in a blender & blend till smooth. Garnish with fresh mint & serve immediately. Add some water while blending if you feel it is too thick.

Nothing more refreshing like a cool glass of Lassi to quench your summer thirst. Enjoy! Sending this to LIVESTRONG WITH A TASTE OF YELLOW 2009, to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation; hosted by Barbara of WinosandFoodies.
